I AM A
Edmonton Rowing Club • Junior Learn-to-Row
you hit the water
Now Learn to Really Row
Your Intro to Rowing session was just the beginning. Junior Learn-to-Row is where you actually build the skills and where most people discover they’re genuinely good at this!
you did something most teens never try
you got in the boat.
now let's see what you can actually do.
Intro to Rowing showed you what the sport feels like. But one session just scratches the surface. The athletes you see gliding down the river – the ones who are smooth, fast, completely in sync — got there because they put in the practice.
Junior Learn-to-Row is six sessions of real coaching, on the water, building skills that actually stick.
“I want to try that again, but actually know what I’m doing.”
“I think I could get fast at this.”
“That was harder than it looked. I want another shot at it.”
If any of those sound like you, keep reading. Your next session is waiting.
Already know you’re in? Spots fill fast – especially for participants coming straight from intro to rowing.
is this for me?
If you just did intro to rowing, this was made for you.

for parents & guardians
What to know before you register.
If your junior came home from Intro to Rowing excited, that’s a good sign — they experienced something real. Rowing is one of the few sports that combines physical fitness, mental focus, technical skill, and genuine team connection.
Junior Learn-to-Row is a structured, coach-led program designed to build on that experience safely and progressively. Here’s everything you need to make a confident decision.
“Is this safe? What does it actually cost? What’s the commitment? Will they be supervised the entire time?”
We’ll answer all of that below, and if you have more questions, our coaches are easy to reach.
Ready to register? Spots are limited and fill quickly after each Intro session.

what comes after
this isn't a dead end - it's a starting point.
Junior Learn-to-Row is the first step of a clear pathway. Whether your junior wants to row recreationally or compete, there’s a place for them at ERC.
1. Intro to Rowing ✓ Completed
Your junior has already done this. They’ve been on the water and know what rowing feels like.
2. Junior Learn-to-Row ← You Are Here
6 sessions of structured skill-building with certified coaches. By the end, they can row confidently and independently.
3. Junior Recreational Rowing / Development
Ongoing access to club rowing sessions in a relaxed, social environment. Great for kids who love it but aren’t ready to compete.
4. Junior Competitive Program
For juniors who want to race. ERC’s competitive program develops athletes for regional and provincial regattas.
No commitment required to advance. Many families just do LTR to see how their junior takes to the sport and take it from there.
questions parents ask
before you register
What age is junior Learn-to-Row for?
How much does it cost, and what's included?
The program fee is $150 for all 6 sessions. All equipment — boats, oars, and life jackets — is provided. There are no additional rental fees. $100 from your program fees will be applied to membership should you wish to continue as a member.
What if my junior misses a session?
We understand life happens. Please contact your coach as early as possible. Consistent attendance is encouraged not only to get the most out of the program, but to ensure that all participants have an enjoyable experience in shared boats.
Is it competitive? Does my junior need to be athletic?
Junior Learn-to-Row is completely non-competitive. There’s no racing, no rankings, and no pressure. Athletes of all fitness levels are welcome. Rowing builds fitness rather than requiring it. What matters most is showing up and being willing to learn.
Can parents watch sessions?
Yes — parents are welcome to observe from the shore. We just ask that you stay off the docks as they are busy with learn to row and active membership programs. We risk injury and equipment damage with extra people on our docks.
What happens after learn-to-Row? is there more commitment expected?
There’s no obligation after LTR. Some families try it to see if their junior clicks with the sport and go from there. ERC offers recreational rowing, a competitive junior program, and everything in between. You choose what fits your family.
What should my junior bring to each session?
Comfortable athletic clothing (snug-fitting, no loose items), athletic shoes they don’t mind getting wet, a water bottle, sunscreen, and a hat or sunglasses. A change of clothes or small towel is always a good idea.
